Recess by De La Rue 1863/66: 1 d. deep blue, wmk. Crown CC type 5, perf. 12½, two single examples, two horizontal pairs, a horizontal strip of three, one stamp defective and a block of four, used on 1867 opened for display cover to England paying the 1/1 d. rate via Marseilles (endorsed 'per French Steamer'), all tied by barred obliterators in black with "GAMPOLA / PAID" datestamp (Nov 5) in red on obverse, with "GALLE / PAID" transit on reverse. Imperfections but a spectacular usage.
