1939 White Paper "Crucial Day" (Yom haPkuda) protest emblems - paper "steward" ('Sadran') brassard & "Vaadat Yom haPkuda" ("Crucial Day" Committee) banner. Day after release of WP (limiting Jewish immigration to Pal. to 75,000 over next 5 years, eve WWII), on May 18th, the national institutions of Yishuv declared a day of strikes & protests against WP + began est. of a Jewish army by enlisting all 18 year olds, who would sign statement of intention to serve in whatever capacity was needed. Large demonstrations across country took place peacefully except in J'lem where Mandatory govt offices + radio were attacked; 1 policeman killed + 130 injured. Brassard is stamped by bilingual oval cachet of "Council of the Jerusalem Jews".
