 Lot 298 - united states draped bust cents - Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles, Inc. Pre-Long Beach Auction #841796 S-89 R3 Liberty Cap VG10. Attractive glossy medium chocolate brown and steel. The surfaces appear perfectly smooth but there are a dozen very tiny specks of greenish verdigris scattered over the reverse, and all of them are hidden in the devices so they do not catch your eye. The only defect that reaches the unaided eye is a light rim bruise left of the middle curls. The date is bold and the legends are complete and clear. Frosty medium brown with a splash of darker steel and olive toning in the hair left of the neck plus a spot of darker toning mixed with microscopic specks of verdigris at the I in AMERICA. No contact marks and there is no apparent friction on the highest points of the devices. There are some of the usual tiny planchet chips in the field before the face and more around OF on the reverse, as struck. Sharpness F12 but slightly rough in the fields and protected areas. No verdigris but there is a vertical scratch touching the back of the head and another one on the bust extending into the field before the neck. Glossy chocolate brown, lighter on the devices and darker in the protected areas. EDS, Breen state I, before die lapping weakened the devices on the reverse. Sharpness VF20 but lightly burnished and retoned glossy steel and medium chocolate brown. No roughness or verdigris and only a few contact marks. The notable ones are a rim bruise under the 9, a tiny rim bruise left of the lowest curl, and a nick just inside the dentil tips left of the lowest curl. Nicely struck EDS, Breen state I. Sharpness VF20 but there are a dozen small pits on the obverse, none distracting but too many to ignore. The notable ones are in the field off the tip of the nose. No verdigris and the notable contact marks are a fine vertical scratch on the neck, a nick on the top of the I in LIBERTY, and a pinprick on the E in STATES. Glossy light olive brown mixed with reddish chocolate. EDS, Breen state II. The two chips in the field under the cap are strong and the reverse is rotated 10 degrees CCW.
