Book Condition: Good with some browning and stains. First Edition. 4to. viii 99 pp + 48 mounted albumen prints hors text by Francis Bedford, each appox. 10 x 12.50 cm, title page is printed in red & black within borders, original gilt decorated blue cloth, slightly rubbed at extremities, professionally rebacked with new endpaper, all edges gilt. Copy in fair condition. Published circa [1866]. First and only Edition. Francis Bedford was a leading British photographer, he was asked by Queen Victoria in 1862 to accompany her son Prince Edward on a journey to the Holy Land. These photographs first appeared in 1863 with an additional number, in folio format without text. Photographs illustrated in this book are all captioned and as follows: 1- 10 views of Egypt. II- 23 views of Palestine. III- 8 views of Lebanon. IV- 1 view of Damascus, Syria. V- 3 views of Constantinople. VI- 3 views of Athens. [ Blackmer 108, Weber 1180.]
