LITZMANNSTADT GHETTO – ARBEITSEATZ Postcard from R.A.L. Lager (labor Camp) Lagowoer-see, postmarked Grunov,,-Stemberg, 20.10.41 and addressed to Ai15eitsein§alz (der Juden), LitzmannstadtGhetto. Boxed violet receiving cancel "Arbeitseinsatz" (work command}, red handstamped "Frei von Zuschlaggebuehr' (no additional postage required), as well as several handwritten notations. Message written in broken German by Jakob Grynsehpan, a forced Iaborer working in underground construction, pleads to the Ghetto authorities that his wife confined there get work in order to earn money, as she cannot get along at 6 RM a week allowance. Very fine "Postal History of the Holocaust" item. Two filing holes that do not detract. Mail items going into Ghetto (or KZ) are rare and desirable objects.
