Nine Postcards that were Sent by Mail to the Captives of Gush Etzion – Postmarks of Trans-Jordan, the Red Cross and the IDF – Extremely Rare
Nine letters (on postcards) that were sent to Shlomo Yudowitz (Yehudai), one of the first settlers of Kibbutz Ein Tzurim (Gush Eztion), and the prisoners-of-war captured by the Jordanian Legion. The letters are from August 1948 until November 1948.
Seven letters are in English and two in Hebrew, which were sent by his sister. In one of them she writes: "What, darling, is the meaning of the fact that I cannot find you in the pictures that have been sent by the Red Cross…". In the other, she writes: "We were delighted to receive your letters, especially when we received one in Hebrew from you … do not worry or despair, we will soon meet, be strong and of good courage".
The postcards are stamped with various stamps, some of them rare: the Red cross, AKA, and Arabic stamps.
Ein Tzurim was established on October 23 1946 in Gush Etzion. Its founders (Yudowitz among them) were members of Bnei Akiva. During the War of Independence, the Kibbutz was captured by the Jordanians and its men were taken captive by them.
Condition: Good. The script has slightly faded. In one of the postcards, the script has almost completely faded.
