1944-45 Los Alamos, New Mexico Soldier Covers, two covers from a soldier stationed at Los Alamos with Santa Fe NM machine cancels and addressed to the soldier's fiancé/ wife in the Bronx NY; 1) "PO Box 1663/ Santa Fe, NM" return address on envelope with "USO" logo on backflap, sender was Pfc at the time - Box 1663 was used for the 5000 "residents" at the Los Alamos National Laboratory; 2) "Spec. Eng. Det./ PO Box 166 180/ Santa Fe NM" return address (the "166" is crossed out probably since the sender was used to using the "Box 1663" address), sender now a S/Sgt, envelope marked "Free", - box 180 was opened around the start of 1945 for the members of the special engineering detachment at Los Alamos; neither cover carries any censor markings or tape and there are some minor faults from opening, postal wear, etc., Fine pairSale 3036: General Sale Session 1 - United States Stamps and Covers
