1943 Cover to POW Brig Gen Clifford Bluemel, legal-sized envelope with typed "FREE" plus "Prisoner of War" and Cambridge A Mass Aug 18 1943 machine cancel, addressed to "Brigadier General; Clifford Bluemel/ Prisoner of War of the Japanese/ Taiwan/ Care International Red Cross/ Tokyo, Japan/ Via, New York, N.Y.", Japanese censor mark, censor tape at left, ms "Recd Feb 22, 44", wife's ms return address on backflap, bit roughly opened at right and partially along top and bottom, some tape residue at left, still a Fine usernBrig Gen Clifford Bluemel (1885-1973) commanded the 31st Division during the Battle of Bataan before being captured by Japanese forces. He survived the Bataan Death March, was held as a prisoner of war from Apr 1942 to Aug 1945.
