brown rate handstamp (Clarke 501b) on incoming folded letter from Cape Francais (now Cape Haitien), Haiti, dated July 16, 1797, endorsed "Cap'tn. Reynolds, Georgia Packet", addressed to Manuel Eyre (Continental Army colonel, shipbuilder, and brother to Benjamin and Jehu Eyre), very fine, the Georgia Packet was a small schooner used by the Marine Committee of the Continental Congress to carry messages in and out of Philadelphia during the Revolutionary War
