Disinfected Mail 1815 (Aug. 10): Letter sheet from Constantinople to Geneva, Switzerland showing coarse rastel punching and superb 'SIGILLIUM SANITATIS' disinfection strike of the Rotheturm Kontumazamt on reverse, opening well for display. Receiver is Jean-Henri Merle d'Aubigné (1794-1870), the item illustrated and discussed in 'Die Österreichische Post in der Levante' on page 105.rnNote: This is the cover which is described in Meyer - "Disinfected Mail" on page 52 as being the earliest usage known at the Rothenturm Pass and which is depicted as type 1 on page 53. Therefore it is the earliest recorded item known to be disinfected at a Lazaret in Romania.
