1851: 1 d. pink postal stationery envelope, a used example addressed to the 'Premier Violiniste' of the Emperor of Russia in St. Petersburg, cancelled on despatch in London with 'Paid' handstamp in red with manuscript notation alongside "1/7d." prepaid. Framed "Aus England / per Aachen franco" in red (Van der Linden fig. 253) transit at left and reverse with Cyrillic arrival datestamp (Sept 1851). The addressee's name re-written but most attractive and the sole known example of a 1 d. pink envelope used to Russia. Cert. K.
