Crimean War 1841: 2 d. blue, pl. 4, lettered AC, used in combination with 1854 1 d. red-brown, pl. 177, wmk. Small Crown, perf. 16 on 1854 cover endorsed "From the Black Sea Fleet" on crested envelope of "HMS Terrible", tied by blurred "O*O" obliterators in black, presumably from an Officer as there is a further '3' pence charge at left. Manuscript beneath the adhesives "Dec 7, Kayatch Bay" and arrival date "Dec 24, 1854". Reverse with "Post Office / British Army" cds and Alcester arrival in red. The 1 d. with rounded corner but the 2 d. with portion of adjoining stamp at base proving the stamp to be imperforate: an exceedingly rare combination.
