1872/77: De La Rue artist's composite Essay for the 64 c. value (issued in red-brown), imperforate on thick card with head-plate in deeep brown taken from the 1867 De La Rue 1 d. or 3 d., the surround to the head-plate hand-painted in deep chocolate brown and Chinese white, the "Ceylon Postage" and "Sixty Four Cents" and frame hand-painted in deep brown over pencil.
