Corinphila Auction 291-297 Day 1

"Split Rates" 1863/72: 2 d. pale blue and 6 d. dull violet in a horizontal pair, used on 1866 cover from Port Louis to Batavia, Netherlands East Indies tied by "B53" obliterators in black. "10d." handstamp in red applied alongside the adhesives (10d. to GB, 2d. to Mauritius, 2d. to France). Mauritius despatch cds (May 7) and Batavia arrival in red (June 19) and charged '25' c. due on arrival. Small fault to the 2 d. adhesive not greatly detracting from the appearance of an interesting cover to an unusual destination.
