Corinphila Auction 291-297 Day 1

1849/50: Sydney View, 1 d. orange-red on soft thin yellowish paper, Plate 1, an unused block of twenty-three - the complete sheet less the two stamps at lower right, positions 24-25 - Plate Proof showing full sheet margins nearly all round, position 23 just shaved at right, position 18 with closed tear and several pressed creases but of no significance as the impression is of strong vibrant colour and is, without doubt, the largest multiple extant (the other large multiples of this Proof are of six and nine, sold together in the Corinphila "Besançon" Sale I in November 2017, lot 6005) and thus this is a multiple of the foremost importance to both New South Wales and classic philately.
