Corinphila Auction 284-290 Day 3

1868: 1 d. green, a diagonally bisected example used on small part piece to pay the 5 c. rate by Train to Callao, tied by readable strike of the very rare oval "COMPANIA DE LOS / FERROCARRILES / DE LIMA" cachet in black (Emsing E194). This private company marking of the owner's of the Railway was probably applied due to Government pressure on the company not to carry uncancelled mail - a fine of ten times the postage was levied on each item.
