1861 3c green, Lowenberg Decalcomania, Plate Essay on Onionskin, se-tenant with French stamp design, vertical pair plus half of another pair of the U.S. essay at bottom with a block of four of the 1c green French stamp at top, fine and outstanding condition for this fragile paper, v.f. (According to an article in the Essay-Proof Journal, Lowenberg was also trying to secure a contract to sell his process to the French government, and this may have been integral to his attempt) (a similar, larger multiple was offered in our September 2007 sale, where it realized $7,000 hammer)
