lot # 7 - LEVANT PURIFIED MAIL

Levant purified mail, Turkey, French office. The first official letter written from the Ottoman's General Sanitary Inspector in Constantinolple (Dr. M. Manhaud), to the President of the Sanitary's Concil in Naples. Briefly, the writer describes the progress made by the Sanitary intendant of Constantinople and demand to that of Naples, which are the quarantines, for boats coming from Turkey, Egypt and the Barbarescque States. Sent on 17/12/1843 the letter, with the official wax seal (partially readable), transiting from Malta Quarantine recive two purification slit and the seal "PURIFIE AU LAZARET MALTE". Arrived in Naples on 30/12/1843 recive the scarce red circular seal "POSTA DI NAPOLI VAPORI DEL MEDITERRANEO" and was charged for 40 granas. VERY RARE, THE FIRST OFFICIAL CONTACT BETWEEN CONSTANTINOPLE AND NAPLES SANITARY INSPECTORS.
