1952, LOCKHEAD CONSTELLATION "VENLO" CRASH BANGKOK: Netherlands, two airmail covers addressed to Hollandia in Dutch New Guinea, the first cover with multiple franking 3 x 10 C orange from Raamsdonksveer, 19.III.52, the second cover with single franking 30 C violet from Haarlem, 20.III.52, both covers have been sent via scheduled intermediate flight Karachi-Bangkok when engine failures occurred while approaching Bangkok airport. The aircraft landed safely with no fatalities, before coming to rest however, the right main gear collapsed and a major fire erupted which affected the transported mail. Nierinck #520323 "h" (p.374).
