A scientific collection by Edmund Wagner, born of his lifelong passion for the uniforms of Napoleon Bonaparte's armies. Driven by his thirst for knowledge and his thirst for research, Edmund Wagner built up a unique library of specialist literature on the uniforms of the French Napoleonic armies
It contains everything you can imagine on this subject. A very large number of books, magazines, periodicals and encyclopaedias deal with the great diversity of the individual armies and sub-groups during Napoleon's numerous wars and battles. Included are publications about uniforms of foreign soldiers who voluntarily or forcedly went to war with Napoleon against Russia. The oldest book included is a book from 1824 and also a 13-volume book series "VICTOIRES CONQUÊTES DES FRANÇAIS / LECOINTE ET POUGIN / LIBRAIRES 1835" as well as other books from the 19th century. Many of the books were written in French.
Equally important for Edmund Wagner were the connections between army and battalion membership, the individual campaigns and their chronological and geographical classification. Furthermore the collection contains sketches and maps of the daily troop movements, battles and front courses of different campaigns of Napoleon.
So it is not surprising that his extraordinary literature collection includes about 500 reference books, several hundred journals and about 1300 DIN A5 folders. In these handcrafted folders he glued photocopies of articles from newspapers, trade journals and other publications on white sheets and placed them in transparent foils, sorted thematically and labeled them neatly. Also rare documents like original paintings of "Rousselot" and "Knötel". In addition there are certainly more than 200 boxes of finished numbered sheets for which folders can also be created.
In short, an outstanding library with a collection of literature that is unique in its kind. Parts of it have already been shown several times at exhibitions and in museums. Eine wissenschaftliche Sammlung von Edmund Wagner, die aus seiner lebenslangen Leidenschaft für die Uniformen der Armeen Napoleon Bonapartes erwuchs. Angetrieben von seinem Wissensdurst und Forscherdrang baute Edmund Wagner, selbst Meister im Kunsthandwerk des Schriftenmalers, eine einzigartige Bibliothek mit Fachliteratur über Uniformen der französischen Armeen in der Zeit Napoleons auf.
Enthalten ist einfach alles zu diesem Thema, was man sich vorstellen kann. Eine sehr große Anzahl an Büchern, Magazinen und Zeitschriften, Enzyklopädien und Lexika beschäftigen sich mit der großen Vielfalt der einzelnen Armeen und Untergruppierungen während der zahlreichen Kriege und Feldzüge Napoleon Bonapartes. Enthalten sind natürlich auch Veröffentlichungen über Uniformen ausländischer Soldaten, die freiwillig oder gezwungener Maßen mit Napoleon gegen Russland in den Krieg zogen. Dabei sind als älteste Werke ein Buch von 1824 und die 13-bändige Bücherreihe "VICTOIRES CONQUÊTES DES FRANÇAIS / LECOINTE ET POUGIN / LIBRAIRES 1835", sowie weitere Bücher aus dem 19. Jahrhundert enthalten. Viele der Bücher wurden natürlich in französischer Sprache verfasst.
Ebenso wichtig waren Edmund Wagner die Zusammenhänge wie Armee- und Bataillonszugehörigkeit, die einzelnen Feldzüge und deren zeitliche und geografische Zuordnung. So beinhaltet die Sammlung auch Skizzen und Karten der täglichen Truppenbewegungen, Schlachten und Frontverläufe verschiedener Feldzüge Napoleons.
So erstaunt es nicht, dass seine außergewöhnliche Literatur-Sammlung rund 500 Fachbücher, mehrere Hundert Zeitschriften und ca. 1300 Ordner im Format Din A5 umfasst. In diesen selbst erstellten Ordnern hat er Fotokopien von Artikeln aus Zeitungen, Fachzeit
