Autographen: 1844 "HER MAJESTY QUEEN VICTORIA & Prince Albert": Sealed mourning cover sent to Coburg
1844 "HER MAJESTY QUEEN VICTORIA & Prince Albert": Sealed mourning cover sent to Coburg on March 18, 1844 with a handwritten letter from Prince Albert (von Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha, 1819-1861) with thanks for a letter of condolence on the occasion of the death of Albert's father (Ernst I. Anton Carl Ludwig von Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha, died on 19 Jan. 1844 in Gotha); three handwritten pages on black-edged paper in ink script, dated "Buckingham Palace, March 1844" and signed "Albert". Also with a note with pencil written instructions of Her Majesty The Queen of England to the "Duke of Coburg" concerning the above-mentioned letter reading "Sey so gut Lieber; Graf Kolowrat liebendes Andenken zu geben ... Deine Victoria". The cover is addressed to "Monsieur le Comte de Kolowrat-Krakovski" and bearing the red London "PAID/19 MR/1844" despatch c.d.s., charge marks, and on the reverse red transit datestamps as well as Coburg '25 MAR 1844' arrival dater. Another non-postal mourning cover (no contents survived) is addressed to "Monsieur le Comte Francois Kolowrat". An interesting group of letters and covers from Her Majesty the Queen and Prince Albert and their connection to the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.
