1851, EARLY USAGE 10c. brown horiz. pair, fresh colour, touched to full margins, on lettersheet dated 3 Jan 1851, clearly oblit. by numeral "158" and red c.d.s. "ECAUSSINES 4 JANV 1851" alongside, addressed to Ostende with transit and arrival mark 4.1.51 on reverse; pair was loosened and replaced by hinge. All catalogues quote the year 1851 as the year of issue, COB explicitely names february. This cover gives substantial support to the assumption that the unframed watermark issue was possibly already put to sale in late 1850; at least a very early if not the earliest known usage of this issue!
