Karikal 1861: Prepaid cover to Nantes endorsed "via Suez" with fine strike of circular "BUREAU DE KARIKAL" datestamp (July 17) in black (the first datestamp employed, in use for less than two years). Framed 'PD' in red, circular "COL FRANCE V SUEZ / 1" datestamp (Aug 22) in red (Salles fig. 1851) alongside applied on arrival. Carried to Galle to connect with P&O "Nubia" to Suez, thence on the "Vectis" from Alexandria to Marseille. Rare.
