1853 (Aug): Die Proof for the 1 d. black, engraved by William Humphrys and printed by Perkins Bacon, the completed design, Imperforate in issued colour on card-mounted India paper (40 x 43 mm.). Extremely rare and very fine.
1853/54: Plate Proof for the 1 d. value in black, a block of four on unwatermarked slightly rough medium wove paper, marginal from base of sheet (positions 208-209/228-229), insignificant diagonal bend mentioned for full accuracy only and not affecting the appearance in any way, fresh and very fine. Rare.
1854 (Aug 1): 1 d. black, wmk. Swan sideways, an unused example with good margins all round, fresh greyish-black shade with fine definition, unused without gum. A very rare stamp so fine Gi = £ 1'700.
Note: Margins between the stamps are never greater than 1¼ mm. and often less. Thus four margin examples are of considerable scarcity.
