lot # 899 - PH: WWII Civilian Postal Links
Postwar air mail from Belgian Congo: 11-10-1945 registered airmail family correspondence cover from LEOPOLDVILLE to HAIFA, franked 32F & tied by 2 strikes of local postmark; as manuscript marked "via Lagos", cover transported via BOAC to LAGOS, then probably to LONDON (as no Egyptian censor marks on cover) & from there to Palestine; backstamped 2[8]? OC 45 REG HAIFA transit & same day HADAR HACARMEL Branch Office arrival; as cover not locally censored (as was done during war), this may be early post-war mail after censorship period; wartime censorship in Palestine ceased at end Sept. 1945. Opened at left, right flap-tip missing, repaired top left front corner.
