We are honored to present The Philatelic Icons Sale, the largest and most significant auction Americana Stamps has ever offered.

Enclosure from the American Telegraph Company announcing "Having Lines EXTENDING FROM HALIFAX TO NEW-ORLEANS, And connecting with other Lines to all parts of the United States and British Provinces." Blue embossed seal of the American Telegraph Company featuring an eagle in clouds with 13 stars overhead and lightning bolt design, inscribed "PRINTING AND MORSE LINES, TRAVELLER BUILDING, 31 STATE ST. BOSTON." Addressed to W.C. Gregg, not post office delivered. The cover with a horizontal crease through the cameo.

Note the absence of any other registered mail postal markings except for the manuscript "Reg. No. 14" accountability notation. The 1c stamp and cover with stains.

This letter was addressed to a naval lieutenant aboard the USS Gettysburg, a survey steamer operating in the Mediterranean Sea from 1877 through 1879.
