GHETTO ZDUNSKA-WOLA RARITY: 1941, German 15 Rpf pc REPLY part of card, used by Jew L.B. WARSZAWSKI and his friends to send joint card (to 2 or 3 writers) to 8. DEMBINSKI in Porto, Portugal! According to Martin Gilbert, Zdunska Wola Ghetto was established in September 1940, (map 52). The address given by "Warszawski was Zdunska Wola, Adolf Hitler (St.) 13". The unusual message in Yiddish & broken German (written in Latin letters) and dated May 23,1941 starts with "BESTER FRAIND" (my best friend), listing many names of various family relatives and name and complete address of S. KELLER, a family relative in Chicago! The second message also is full of names of relatives in various parts of occupied Poland & name of relative S. Krull lucky enough to have escaped & reached Lisbon, Portugal (with full address). With further requests for information & report of present status of many families. Card has superb cancellation ZDUNSKA WOLA of 24.4.41, faint violet OKW Nazi censor mark, and boxed "3641" pink numerator on front, backstamped MADRID 11.MAY.41 & with PORTO 3.5.41 machine cancel (either error or the 1 of 13 is not shown) as arrival cancellation. Light vert fold in center, otherwise VF RARE GHETTO CARD WITH JOINT MESSAGE SENT ABROAD! A real photo card depicting the monument & epitaph commemorating Zdunska Wola martyrs is included.
