Wartime shipping schedule changes: 26-27 Sept. 1939 notice of schedule changes for m/n Calitea & s.s. Galilea of the Adriatica Societa An. di Navigazione company; the Calitea's departure ex Haifa for 26 Sept. was cancelled without further notice & Galilea's departure ex Haifa was moved up a day from the 27th to the 26th. The shipping firm (founded 1932) had been contracted by the Palestine Postmaster to carry mail since June 1937 (unlisted in Proud or Dorfman); these "last minute" changes may have been part of an effort to change routine and "confuse the enemy", to protect the safety of the transport. S.S. Galilea is recorded as having transported Jewish refugees with rare immigration "certificates" to Palestine in this period; sunk March 1942.
