lot # 50404 - Philately > Baghdad overland mail
Eastbound mail: c. JULY 1945 comm cv (ex HAIFA?) to TEHERAN, sent via overland service via Baghdad but underfranked at 10m (15m was period rate), tied by machine cancel; b/s 29 JLY 1945 BAGHDAD transit, where cv censored (front); probably at this stage of transmission, cv damaged: b/s 15 IX 45 TEHERAN arr (6 week transit), marked for tax on front (uncollected) + opened/resealed & censored by Anglo-Soviet-Iranian censor (front/back); m/s on back/front (Farsi?) suggests cv could not be delivered, so RtS; received HAIFA 1 NO 45 where top of cv sealed by "Found Open or Damaged" sealing label & tied by local pmk; b/s 3 NO 45 J'LEM RLO (as no r/a visible). Unusual c. 4 month transit time/occurence.
