Original mezuzah parchment from Yeshivat "Etz Hayim", c. 19th to early 20th C. Purchased by the consignor from a former member of the Yeshiva staff who told him that the parchment in its present frame was displayed such at the Yeshiva at some point prior to being sold. Yeshiva originally est. in 1841 (by Rebbi Shmuel Salant) & its studies were held in various rooms throughout Jewish Quarter of Old City; only in 1857 were its studies held in organized rooms near the 'Hurva' Shul; expanded to Jaffo St. in 1908. Its uniqueness was est. of continual learning framework from early age to post-marriage & division of classes by abilities of its students (unlike traditional 'cheder').
