Stampless envelope written from 'Santiago de Cuba' dated æ9th Oct', charged '3/2', addressed to France routed via England on British Packet with framed 'Packet Letter' in red and charged '8' ship letter, London transit, French entry cachet and arrival '1st Nov' on reverse rated '59' tax decimes and oval '1d' for rural delivery in France. This Packet Letter (Robertson P.5) may have been applied at the Foreign Branch for mail arriving by British Packet and being forwarded to the Continent.
