lot # 50176LA - Militaria > 1948 era militaria
Israel: unit pin of 4th Battalion of "Har'el Brigade" of Palmach, circa. 1948-49; not maker-marked; weight: 3.35g. Design based on Palmach's emblem by Shoshana Spector (sword across two ears of wheat w/name); it incorporates the 4th Battalion's name with word "Portzim" ("penetrators" /"breachers") in Heb. on the sword itself. The 4th 'Portzim' Battalion together with the 5th 'Shaar Ha'Gai' and 6th 'Jerusalem' battalions formed the Har'el Brigade, which was commanded by Yitzhak Rabin and fought around Jerusalem, penetrating the seige imposed by the Arab Legion on the city.
