Typographed from electrotypes by Samuel Calvert 1857 (Jan-Sept): Emblems 1 d. yellow-green, wmk. Large Star, imperforate, a used horizontal pair with single 4 d. dull rose, shaved to large margins, used on 1857 cover to Glasgow endorsed "per Emeu", tied by "2" barred numeral obliterators of Geelong in black. Reverse with "GEELONG / ♚ / VICTORIA" despatch datestamp (Sept 16) and obverse with 'London / Paid' arrival cds (Dec 7) in red. The "Emeu" ran aground in the Red Sea near Jeddah and the Mails were turned over to the "Madras" for onward transmission. A fine and rare cover.rn
