Zohar (Livorno 1851) with Important Glosses Handwritten by the Kabbalist Rabbi Raphael Aharon Ferrara, One of Them Contains Calculations of the Redemption – His Signatures

Before us is the copy from which the Kabbalist Rabbi Aharon Raphael Chaim Moshe Ferrara had studied.

An important gloss handwritten by him (on leaf 219) dealing with the calculation of the redemption.

On leaf 251, a long gloss in his script singed: "From me … Yitzchak".

Several handwritten lingual corrections, most likely in his script.

The Kabbalist Rabbi Aharon Raphael Ferrara was born in Salonika to his father Rabbi Yitzchak Ferrara. He immigrated to Jerusalem with his family in 1848 and was one of the kabbalists of the Beit El Yeshiva.

His leading disciple, Rabbi Akiva Yosef Schlesinger, wrote of him "One cannot imagine the greatness of his virtues. Until his death he used to get up at midnight to go to the Beit El Beit Midrash and encouraged his friends to do as he did…" He died in 1886.

He left a detailed will of twelve clauses requesting that his manuscripts be printed and published.

His compositions: "Toldot Aharon Ve'Moshe Ve'Efer Yitzchak" (Jerusalem, 1870), "Devar Hashem Mi'Yerushalayim" (Jerusalem, 1873). His son is the Kabbalist Rabbi Yitzchak Ferrara of Jerusalem, of the Beit El Yeshiva.

Condition: Fair. The first leaves (including the title page) are detached. Flaws. Moth signs. Most of the leaves of the book are in good condition.

לפנינו העותק בו למד המקובל הצדיק רבי אהרן רפאל חיים משה פירירא זיע"א.

הגהה חשובה בכתב ידו (בדף ריט) העוסקת בחישוב הקץ. וכך נכתב: "נלע"ד שלזה בא הזוה"ק לומר שאחר ... יהיה גאולה.... יהיה קץ וסוף שיגאלנו גאולה שלימה....". באמצע ההגהה חתם: "ממני אפ"ר יצחק".

בדף רנא הגהה ארוכה בכתב ידו, חתום בסופה: "ממני אפ"ר יצחק".

מספר תיקוני לשון בכתב יד, כנראה כתב ידו.

המקובל רבי אהרן רפאל פירירא נולד בשאלוניקי לאביו רבי יצחק פירירא, עלה עם בני ביתו בשנת תר"ח, לירושלים. נמנה בין חכמי המקובלים ויחידי ישיבת בית אל.

כל ימיו התנהג בחסידות. תלמידו המובהק הגאון המפורסם רבי עקיבא יוסף שלזינגר כותב עליו "אין לשער ואין לספר מדותיו של אהרן זיע"א, לרובו עד יום מותו לא עבר עליו חצות לילה בשינה, וכארי התנשא בחצות לעלות לבית המדרש בית אל יכב"ץ, ולעורר ולזרז את החברים לזאת, מלבד אשר רבים השיב מעון עוד בבחרותו בשלוניקי ... ". נפטר בשנת תרמ"ו.

חיבוריו "תולדות אהרן ומשה ואפר יצחק" (ירושלים, תר"ל). "דבר ה' מירושלים" (ירושלים, תרל"ג). בנו הוא המקובל הירושלמי רבי יצחק פירירא זצ"ל, מחכמי ישיבת 'בית אל'.

גיל הפריט: 167 שנים.

מצב בינוני. הדפים הראשונים (כולל השער) מנותקים. פגמים, סימני עש. רוב דפי הספר במצב טוב וסביר.
