COLONIAL STAMP CO. Auction #130 - Public Auction
We welcome you to our exciting first Public Auction of 2019
Packed with great material, including a portion of the exceptional Roy Sass specialized Australia collection featuring some amazing assemblages of North West Pacific Islands.
British African “gems” include: Bechuanaland 2d overprint in green; an ancient British Central Africa £25 from 1895; Kenya & Uganda’s 50R – mint with script CA wmk; Uganda typewritten 20¢-100¢ - including some “V. R.”s and many Togo overprints highlighted by a 1M first setting.
British West Indies “nuggets” feature a used “Cotton Reel” from British Guiana 1850 12¢ blue and a Trinidad 1857 (1d) rose-red, mint.
British Asia has a few “pearls” such as a Selangor 1897 $25 postally used plus a Perak #1, used. Ceylon brings an 1860 1/- slate-purple – perf 13x13.
British Europe “shines” with superb Q Victoria Great Britain. Used: an 1878 10/- (Plate 1) and an 1882 £1; mint: an 1867 5/- plus Officials. The “Kings” are also well represented.
British North America “sparkles” with superb Canada QV Jubilees ($3 never hindged!) and an early used Newfoundland 1857 2¢ scarlet-vermilion and a mint 1860 6¢ orange-vermilion.
But the “jewels” of this Public Auction lie in Oceania! Australia features nine mint £2 Kangaroos; rare Postage Dues – including a 1907 4d dull green perf 11. There is a wonderful 1871 Fiji Times Express 9d mint and seven New Zealand “O.P.S.O.”s plus a Papua 1909 6d perf 12½ mint and Samoa 1/- on 1M “G.R.I.” also mint. That said, North West Pacific Islands features all three sets of “S”s (Types a-c) including the elusive 5/- (this took many years to form – I know as I helped Roy build it!), plus the rare £1 – 38 (118), mint.
P.S. if you do not find all you are looking for (! ? !) here, we encourage you to visit our web site (www.ColonialStamps.com) as we have put up the first few million dollars of our retail stock, with more to follow. There is sure to be something of interest, plus “want lists” are always welcome for us to fill from our 50 volumes of stock – mint and used, by Scott and Stanley Gibbons, and all available as “singles”.
