The Stroi (Straw) on which the Rebbe Rabbi Aharon of Belz Stood on Yom Kippur - Segulah for Protection
Some of the straw on which the Rebbe Rabbi Aharon of Belz Stood on Yom Kippur, in accordance with the custom of the Belzer Rebbes on Yom Kippur.

On Yom Kippur, the Rebbe Rabbi Aharon of Belz used to stand barefoot on this straw, which is called by the Belzer Hassidim "Stroi". On the evening after Yom Kippur, the Rebbe used to take some of the straw and then the Hassidim were allowed to take some too. Since there was only little straw, each Hassid would take very little of it. The straw was considered by the Belzer Hassidim as a Segulah for protection.

In the book "Bi'Kedushato shel Aharon" (stories and customs of Rabbi Aharon of Belz), it is written: "I have heard from Rabbi Yesha'aya Schneelbalg … that Belz have a custom to lay out straw under the Rebbe's feet on Yom Kippur. And once, there was no straw and the Rebbe instructed to buy a mattress and take straw from it". 

The book recalls a miraculous story about the straw: "I have heard from Rabbi Shema'aya Klein of Wein (Tamuz 2015) that when he lived in Israel he decided, in order to make a living, to emigrate and live abroad. When he made his way to Haifa and was already on board the ship, a customs inspector found that he had a large amount of foreign currency which was illegal and strictly forbidden those days. Reb Shema'aya feared that he will confiscate the money, which was all he had to start a new life abroad. Behold, in his bag, he also had some "Stroi" on which the holy Belzer Rebbe stood on Yom Kippur when he was in the Katamon neighborhood of Jerusalem. The inspector, who was non-religious and far from being an observant Jew heard from him about the straw. Immediately, he asked that Reb Shema'aya give him "one wisp" of the straw as gift. And when Reb Shema'aya gave him his request, the inspector left him alone without confiscating even a cent of his money. Wonder of wonders!

Enclosed is a signed confirmation: "I the undersigned hereby confirm that I have sold the straw (Stroi) on which the Rebbe Rabbi Aharon of Belz stood on Yom Kippur 1955. I have signed Zvi Michael the son of Rabbi Yissachar Dov Goldstein".
השטרוי (קש) שעליו עמד האדמו"ר הקדוש רבי אהרן מבעלז ביום הכיפורים - סגולה לשמירה!
מעט תבן הנקרא "שטרוי", שעמד עליו האדמו"ר הקדוש רבי אהרן מבעלז ביום הכיפורים, בשנת תשט"ו, כמנהג אדמו"רי בעלז מדי שנה בשנה. מצורף אישור חתום.

האדמו"ר הקדוש רבי אהרן מבעלז זצ"ל היה עומד במשך כל יום הכיפורים כשהוא יחף על קש זה, הנקרא בחסידות בעלז "שטרוי". במוצאי היום הקדוש היה האדמו"ר לוקח מעט מן הקש, ואחר כך ניתנה הרשות ליתר החסידים לקחת מן הקש. מכיוון שהקש היה מועט, כל חסיד היה לוקח מעט מאוד. הקש התקבל בחסידות בעלז כסגולה לשמירה.

בספר "בקדושתו של אהרן" (סיפורי קודש והנהגות רבי אהרן מבעלז) כתוב: "שמעתי מהגה"צ רבי ישעיה שנעבאלג זצ"ל, ראב"ד קהל מחזיקי הדת בא"צ, שבבעלז יש מנהג לשטוח קש מתחת לרגליו של האדמו"ר ביום כיפור. ופעם אחת לא היה קש והורה האדמו"ר מוהר"א לקנות מזרון להוציא הקש מתוכו".

מובא שם סיפור מופת בדבר הקש המופלא: "עובדא אחרת, שמעתי מפי יבלחט"א הר"ר שמעיה קליין שיחי' מוויען יצ"ו (תמוז תשע"ה) שבדידיה הוי עובדא, כאשר התגורר אז באר"י, ומשום פרנסת ביתו החליט בע"כ לרדת מן הארץ ולהתגורר במדינת הים. ויהי כאשר עשה את דרכו לעיר נמל חיפה, והיה כבר על סיפון האוניה, מצאו אצלו אנשי המכס שוטרי הגבולות בין השאר, שהיה לו בחיקו סכום ניכר וגדול של 'מטבע זר' אשר לא היה חוקי ואסור היה אז בתכלית האיסור. נבהל ר' שמעיה מאוד בחששו שוודאי יחרימו לו עתה, כפי דינא דמלכותא בימים ההם, את כל אשר רכש בארץ ישראל, שהמירם אח"כ למטבע זר - עובר לסוחר, שיהיה לו לצורכו עבור השתקעותו בחוץ לארץ, והנה באמתחתו היה גם כן 'שטרוי' אשר מרן הקדוש מבעלזא זיע"א עמד עליהם ביום הכיפורים הקדוש, בהיותו בקטמון ירושלים, והנה, השוטר ואיש המכס הראשי הממונה שהיה בגבולות, שהיה איש חילוני מובהק ורחוק משמירת התומ"צ, שמע ממנו שהנה יש עמו צרור של תבן אשר עמד עליו קדוש ישראל הרבי מבעלז, ביקש הימנו הלז, שיואיל ר"ש לתת לו במתנה 'חוט אחד' מן השטרוי, וכאשר נתן לו כפי בקשתו, עזבוהו השוטרים המוכסים והניחוהו לנפשו, לבלתי החרים ממנו אף לא פרוטה אחת מכל רכושו וכספו, ויהיה לפלא! (שמעתי מפי בעל העובדא עצמו ה"ה הרב שמעיה קליין הי"ו כעת בוויען יצ"ו)".
