Newly Discovered, City of Newark, NJ, March 15, 1865, One Year Scrip Un-Cut Sheet. Newark, New Jersey. Signed by Theodore Runyon, Mayor of Newark and Civil War Brigadore General, This is a cut cancelled sheet of (2) $50.00, (1) $100.00 and (1) $200.00 Civil War Bounty Bonds from the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Newark. Bonds issued a mere 3 weeks prior to the end of the American Civil War and a month to the day of the death of President Abraham Lincoln. Each certificate is signed by the then Mayor of Newark, NJ, Theodore Runyon (October 29, 1822 – January 27, 1896) a United States politician, diplomat, and American Civil War Brigadier General in the New Jersey Militia, serving with the Union Army at the Battle of First Bull Run, first president of the Manufacturers' National Bank of Newark, chancellor of New Jersey for 14 years and, between 1893 and 1896, envoy and later ambassador to Germany. Crisp VF condition and cut cancelled, rare and attractive.

New York, 1846, Signed 2 page letter in Spinner's hand, Francis Elias Spinner was an American politician from New York. He was Treasurer of the United States from 1861 to 1875. The letter includes various interesting statements including “NYS 5% Stock is now above par....lowest rate that they have been Sold for.....was a contrivance of the "Bearz", and "I returned from Washington yesterday... the Governor Yell says "Arkansas not worth ane damn"… Etc… Interesting and historic context. Early date for a Spinner letter. VF

Samuel F.B. Morse Autographed Letter dated August 3, 1816. Boston, Massachusetts. 1 full page, small 4to, American artist and inventor. He was a pioneer photographer in America using the Daguerre technique taught to him by the French inventor and photographer, Daguerre. Achieved fame and fortune for the invention of the Morse code. To augment his income as a painter, he became a pioneer photographer bringing the daguerreotype to America, he was appointed professor of painting and sculpture at the University of New York and later professor of the literature and art of design. Early autographed 1816 letter to his friend and fellow artist Charles Bird King. Morse relates his current endeavors to King "I leave tomorrow morng on a sketching tour through Vermont, N.Hampshire & N.York to be gone 2 or 4 mo(nths). .....I hope one day to paint some large historical pictures...I can't get Delaplaine to pay me, I shall not paint any more for him till he does...", Important letter from this historical figure.

Roycrofters, 1902 Stock Certificate Signed by E. Hubbard as president. New York, June 4, 1902. 4 Shares, S/N 3, Issued and ink cancelled stock certificate, Signed by Elbert Hubbard as president and Elbert Hubbard II as treasurer. XF condition. Roycroft was a reformist community of craft workers and artists which formed part of the Arts and Crafts movement in the USA. Elbert Hubbard founded the community in 1895 in the village of East Aurora, Erie County, New York, near Buffalo. Participants were known as Roycrofters. The work and philosophy of the group, often referred to as the Roycroft movement, had a strong influence on the development of American architecture and design in the early 20th century.
