1285-1314 Philippe IV le Bel, gold 'Agnel d'or', (issue of 1311), pascal lamb looking left with cross & banner, inscr 'PH REX' below, rev floriated cross. 4.11g. Fr-258, D-212. Attracttive EF with quite even edges, flan sl undulating. Philippe IV was the 1st French king to regularly issue gold coinage, as previous to his reign only Louis IX had minted one coin in tiny quantity. Therefore, for collectors of French gold coins Philippe IV is the earliest king that can realistically be represented in their collections. Extremely rare & historically significant. (P)
