10 lepta 1912 (type IV) with "owl on top of a fallen amphora opposite an olive branch" & "ΒΑΣΙΛΕΙΟΝ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ". In nickel, engraved by Charles Pillet minted in Paris. Without hole!!! (not even trace!!!). Weight 4.33gr while the weight of a common coin is 4.05gr. Coin diameter: 21mm, innercircle diameter: 3.5-4mm. Our opinion is that this coin was not circulated. Mintage 28.973.497 pcs (1912-1920- Hellas page 72/78). In 1912 issue (5 lepta, 10 lepta, 20 lepta) it is seen on 10 lepta without mintmarks var. (common) and on 20 lepta (scarce-it is sold in private over 1000 Euros). There are also common varieties of off-centre holes on these coins. Knowed Patterns with ESSAI (Hellas T77-T83) but THIS COIN IS UNLISTED. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT IS AUCTIONED IN THIS CONDITION. MAYBE ONE OR TWO COPIES LIKE THIS (NOT IN THIS CONDITION) EXISTS IN PRIVATE COLLECTIONS ? OUR OPINION IS THAT THIS COIN WAS NOT CIRCULATED AND IS MINT ERROR OR PATTERN. (Variety or Pattern of Hellas 139). EXTRA FINE.
