Lot 0306a - Israeliana Scouts & Youth Movements - Historama SIGNIFICANT JUDAICA Mailbid SaleIsrael: Israeli Boy Scouts 8th grade completion pin, circa. 1950s; not maker-marked; size: 10.5 x 16mm; weight: 0.7g. The pin depicts the emblem of the Israeli Boy Scouts, with Hebrew motto on scroll "Heye Nakhon" ('Be Prepared). The pin is awarded to scouts upon their completion of 8th grade, and replaces the pin of a fawn's-head (issued to scouts upon swearing-in to the movement), on the flap of their left pocket. This pin is dated relatively early as the metal is of a dull silver color and the back is fuller, with a period style safety pin. The badge depicts the logo of the cooperative: a large cargo with the name "Shelev" on it being loaded onto a transport truck bearing the name in English on its side. This was the company's logo from its founding in 1945, in Tel Aviv. The company exists to this day - having skirted a bankrupcy - now known as "Shelev Transport", and over the course of its life partcipated in many national development projects. Lot 0328a - Israeliana transport - Historama SIGNIFICANT JUDAICA Mailbid SalePalestine/Yishuv: 'Dan' garage hat badge of the "Galey-HaMa'avir" transport company, circa. 1934-1945; not maker-marked; size: 23.25 x 30.25mm; weight: 3.45g. The emblem bears the Hebrew legend "The Garage # Dan" with the winged-tire emblem of the company below. The prongs on the back have broken off. This was the first garage of the company - the forerunner to the present day "Dan" transport company - and it was established in 1934, in Tel Aviv. The badge pre-dates the establishment of the "Dan" bus company in 1945 (from a merger of "HaMa'avir" and "Ichud Regev"), as it does not bear the emblem of that enterprise. The badge depicts 3 date trees and a tent, with the name "Bnei Metzada" in Hebrew below. This was issued at the completion of a young Guard members second stage (of seven) in the ranks of the movement. Nicely manufactured - here with 2 prong reverse (and not the more common safety-pin back), suggesting an early period of use; not maker-marked, hence probably from Palestine/Israel. The pin is wedge-shaped and formed from the combination of a scythe and pitchfork; the legend reads "Agricultural School Kadoorie [at] Har Tavor # 15th Student Year 5701 [1940-41]". Reverse has safety-pin soldiered on. The school was founded in 1933 at Har Tavor in the Galillee, and named after Sir Ellis Kadoorie, whose bequeathment financed the establishment of the institution.
