Union Soldier Pass, 1864, 132d Regiment, Illinois Infantry Volunteers. Paducah, Kentucky, 1864, Pass for soldier to be absent from camp until 4PM on Aug 13 1864 and signed by all the appropriate officers, Fine condition with some aging along folds. The 132 Regt of Illinois Volunteers was a "100 Days" unit established the 1st June, 1864, and was stationed in Kentucky to provide relief for veteran troops. Standing Native American Woman on left. Signed by Col. T.J. Picket. Pickett served throughout the Civil War, becoming Lieutenant Colonel of the 69th Illinois Volunteers in 1862. He was a very active mason and had the T.J. Pickett Lodge named for him. He was the Tenth Grand Master of Illinois, who was born in Louisville, Kentucky on March 17, 1821, and came to Peoria, Illinois with his parents in 1836. He learned the printing trade there, later becoming a journalist and publisher and published papers in Peoria, Pekin, and Rock Island, Illinois; Paducah, Kentucky, and Lincoln, Nebraska . At the close of the war, he moved his home and business interests to Paducah, Kentucky.

Newly Discovered, City of Newark, NJ, March 15, 1865, One Year Scrip Un-Cut Sheet. Newark, New Jersey. Signed by Theodore Runyon, Mayor of Newark and Civil War Brigadore General, This is a cut cancelled sheet of (2) $50.00, (1) $100.00 and (1) $200.00 Civil War Bounty Bonds from the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Newark. Bonds issued a mere 3 weeks prior to the end of the American Civil War and a month to the day of the death of President Abraham Lincoln. Each certificate is signed by the then Mayor of Newark, NJ, Theodore Runyon (October 29, 1822 – January 27, 1896) a United States politician, diplomat, and American Civil War Brigadier General in the New Jersey Militia, serving with the Union Army at the Battle of First Bull Run, first president of the Manufacturers' National Bank of Newark, chancellor of New Jersey for 14 years and, between 1893 and 1896, envoy and later ambassador to Germany. Crisp VF condition and cut cancelled, rare and attractive.

Miniature Civil War Bible and Civil War Letter. Soldier’s pocket bible. Black. 3 Ÿ” x 2 Œ”. Tucked away inside the bible is a 1 Œ” oval sepia image of General P Kerney, a G. A. R. lecture card dated 1869 and other assorted items. Stamped letter from James Higgs, Company D, 61st Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Division, 6 Corps, Washington, DC. Addressed to George W. Price, New Brunswick, NJ. Dated July 6, 1864. “This little Testament was picked up on the Battle field in the Wilderness……” “….on opening it I found a request that if found it should be sent to you.” “Please let me know whether your brother is safe or not.” The letter is pretty much intact, but repaired with tape.

Civil War Letters With Interesting Content Discussing Politics, Morals and Military Action. ND (ca.1861-65), Lot of 2 Civil War Letters and Cover Union Pennsylvania Volunteers. Letters with patriotic cover, written by John S. Nimmon. (Nimmon, of Fannettsburg was a 3 year veteran of the War Between the States. He was also a Quartermaster of the 11th Pennsylvania Cavalry. He enlisted on August 31, 1861 and rose through the ranks from 1st Sergeant to Major by May of 1865). Letters discuss various skirmishes and armaments from both sides. Mentions “Frank or James and a “Negro” shot two of the soldiers wounding them severely but not mortally.” “…while his men 2 who were along used the bayonets, one of the soldiers was shot in the fray by the Lieutenant… three wounded soldiers and a dead “n-gger”. “ “The Virginians are firing into it “the town” and the chaps are returning it… Depicts a bloody time in our nation’s past and includes much more interesting reading as well as being relatively well written and thought out.

Civil War 1863-64 Naval Discharge Papers and Notarized Claimant Forms for “Prize Money” due for Spoils of War. 1864, Included is a claim by a Civil war sailor. William H. Austin, who served on the U.S. Steam Sloop the “Lackawanna”. During his term of service on the “Lackawanna”, they captured the following vessels: The Schooner “Sea Lion” on May 9, 1863; The Schooner “Hunter” on May 18, 1863; The British Ship “Neptune” on June 14, 1863; The Confederate Ship “Planter” on June 15, 1863. The documents go on to say that “Austin“…is entitled to share in the prize money occurring from the capture of said vessels.” A significant artifact of the War Between the States. Scarce in complete format, minor splits, archivally repaired.

Andrews, 16th New Hampshire Infantry. Letter to his father of June 22, 1863. “Dear Father I will try to writ you a few lines It is with a sad heart that I attempt to write Poo Abner is dead he died on the fourth day of June up to Brashear City. His money and things I don’t know what was dun with them… an Over coat… and a pair of Patns… “ I gow with Prisoners … the rest had not gon to Port Hudson… guarding Genl Banks hed quarters…” Historic representation of this sad time in the history of this country.

He helped negotiate the compromise of 1877 which ended Reconstruction. Checks are VF or better
