WARRING STATES: Anonymous, 400-200 BC, AE knife money, H-4.6, three-character knife, qi fa huo (the authorized currency of Qi) in archaic script on obverse, reverse character uncertain, very light encrustation with lovely patina, a superb example, among the nicest we have seen in recent years, this example from an old collection in Sweden, EF.

CHEN: Anonymous, ca. 557-589, AE cash (3.42g), H-13.18, tai huo liu zhu ( "large coin six zhu "), issued by Emperor Xuan on Chen in 579 AD, lovely patination, choice VF. This coin with the beautiful calligraphy, displayed at the left, is considered to be the "crown jewel " of Southern Dynasty coins. The coin was originally worth ten regular wu zhu coins, but because of popular discontent was revalued to one wu zhu.
