Status International - Sale 356 - December 12th, 2019. 

 

Auction 356 has 3,730 lots, catering for all types of collectors & dealers - from bulk accumulations and intact collections to desirable single items. This auction offers a huge range of material, with special emphasis on lotting stamps to cater for collectors with varying types of interests and budgets.  Items range from $30 to $80,000 so there's something for everybody. This auction offers strong representation of Australia & Colonies, strong British Empire material of all areas & periods, as well as General Foreign including small and large collections. There are over 300 lots of Australian Collections (Lots 44-374 and 500 lots of World collections (Lots 375-811). Following on there is almost 1300 lots of Australia which consist of singles, sets and covers including Australian colonies (Lots 889 - 2220). The Australian lots cover all periods, from the Kangaroo issues up to Decimal and contains numerous number of mint & used £1 & £2 top values. This auction includes a Third Watermark 5/- Kangaroo Grey & pale yellow, error WATERMARK SIDEWAYS, showing full 'crown A' (crown to right looking from back), with marginal wmk line & small portions of marginal letters. Superb U appearance with neat 1918 cds, partial telegraph punch extremely well repaired & basically invisible. Excellent centring, perfect perfs & nice colour. ACSC 44d cat $125,000. SG 42ba cat £85,000 = A$150,000. This is the 2nd known example & an important new discovery that was found in Europe this year. (The other known example was in the Arthur Gray collection, & despite having a badly smeared cancel & short perfs sold for US$96,000 in 2007). Great rarity of the Kangaroo issues & an important error stamp of Australia & of the British Empire. 2019 Ceremuga AIEP photo-cert. (Lot 1139). There are over 1,500 lots of World stamps, covers and single country collections (Lots 2221-3730).
