Status International - Sale 285 - March 15, 2012. Auction 285 has 3811 lots catering for all types of collectors & dealers - from bulk accumulations and intact collections to desirable single items. This auction offers a huge range of material, with special emphasis on lotting stamps to cater for collectors with varying types of interests and budgets. Items range from $30 to $30,000 so there's something for everybody. This auction offers strong representation of Australia & Colonies, strong British Empire material of all areas & periods, as well as General Foreign including small and large collections. There are over 300 lots of Australian Collections (LOT 125-440) and almost 400 lots of World collections (LOT 441 - 832). Following on there is almost 900 lots of Australia which consist of singles, sets and covers including Australian colonies (LOTS 910 - 1797). The Australian lots cover all periods, from the Kangaroo issues up to Decimal and contains numerous number of mint & used £1 & £2 top values - this includes a First Watermark £2 £2 Black & rose, Superb M with excellent centring, SG 16 (LOT 947). In the pre-decimal era there are specialist items such as monograms, imprints, proofs, varieties & errors. The specialist section in the Pre - decimal era includes a 1956 Olympics 3½d UNISSUED DENOMINATION, prepared but never issued due to change of rate to 4d, with same design used for new denomination (Lot 1271). In the Decimal section is the 1981 Animal 24c Thylacine (Tasmanian tiger), vertical strip of 10, with top 5 stamps error olive colour totally MISSING, next 4 stamps olive partially missing, bottom stamp normal. VF fresh MUH Unlisted in ACSC (LOT 1299). There are over 2,000 lots of World stamps, covers and single country collections (LOTS 1799 - 3811) with the British Empire well represented, highlighted by the 1933 Centenary Set from Falkland Islands ½d-£1, perf SPECIMEN. Superb fresh MUH, SG 127-38s (LOT 2247) also a Great Britain 1867-83 QV £5 orange, BLUED paper. VFU, "Liverpool Exchange 1 SP 82" cds, with stamp showing the delicate orange shade characteristic of the blued paper & pmk date is in the correct blued paper usage period, SG 133(Lot 2593). The Pacific region there is a New Guinea (German) GRI, 1915 "GRI/3d" opt Rabaul (Deutsch-Neuguinea) with HYPHEN, registration label number 385, OVERPRINT DOUBLE (both equally strong & partly overlapping), VFU on piece with full Rabaul cds, nice fresh colour, SG 33da a very important GRI rarity, as only 2 examples recorded, with other one being unused, making this used example unique as such, 2011 RPSL photo-cert (LOT 3185). In the European countries they include a wide range of collections, single lots and covers including a France 1945 special Liberation of Paris "Marianne de Dulac" 2.40Fr red M/Sheet, prepared but unissued. Superb fresh MUH, original size & pristine gum,Extremely rare as almost all stock was officially destroyed, Maury BF4, Yv BF4 (LOT 2301). There is an excellent range of China including PRC (LOTS 2036 - 2124). Please note that bidding on our website is in Australian dollars.
