This catalogue contains a great selection of Australian coins including Australian Shipwrecks, Adelaide Pound, Dump, Proclamation coins, Gold Sovereigns and Half-Sovereigns, pre-decimal coins and Proofs, Error Coins, RAM , Perth Mint and NPA products. There are many highlights in the Australian Coins including Three Australian 1930 Pennies. First two are graded in aF/VF and the other is gF and are Reserved at $17,000 and 16,000 and $16,000 respectively (Lots 6975,6976 and 6977). This auction also includes a VERY RARE 1921 KGV Kookaburra Square 1d. 4.23g. Fully lustrous practically UNC. Renniks Type 12. McD Type 13 . Reserve $15,000 (Lot 6615). Also a major new discovery of a 1858 Half Sovereign Sydney Mint Type II. aVF/VF. 'RFG' instead of 'REG' in legend. The F is exactly the same as 'F' in 'F:O'. 1858 was not a good year for the Sydney Mint, as the famous & very rare SOVRREIGN variety also occurred. UNIQUE? Reserve $7,500 (Lot 6620).

This sale includes a rare £50 Cerutty-Collins medium serial numbers with prefix letter Y. R-67c Flattened, VF, tiny invisible stain in bottom margin & 2 tiny nicks at base . Great range of World coins and banknotes, including Gold, silver and copper coins, medals and World Banknotes. In the World Coins is a German 1932A 5 Reichsmark Centenary-Death of Goethe. Lightly toned UNC. Guaranteed genuine KM-77 cat US$5000. Reserve $3,800 (Lot 8392). Also in the world banknote section is a Boer War - Siege of Mafeking. 1 Shillings January 1900, 'Issued by the Authority of Colonel R.S.S. Baden-Powell', with embossed 'Bechuanaland Protectorate / One Penny' embossed duty stamp, with numbered counterfoil at left, showing it came from a special booklet (most of these notes were issued in stapled pads without any counterfoil). Choice UNC in absolutely pristine fresh original condition. P-S651a cat US$1500+ plus large premium for the intact counterfoil. This originates from a partial booklet ex John Ineson collection, and previously no examples with intact counterfoils were recorded. In any case any Mafeking notes extremely rare in such high grade. (Lots 5001-5090) Highlight being Australia: 1947 Air Force Cross (AFC) to Pilot of Dakota Aircraft, Flying Officer (later Fl Lieut) E.T.W. HOLT, RAAF. Tasked with the transportation of the Prime Minister, Cabinet Officials & high ranking Military Officers throughout Australia & the SW Pacific area. AFC, GVIR, in its original box of issue. Reverse engraved officially: '1947'. Together with his unnamed as issued 1939-45 & Pacific Stars. Also included is the original, addressed box of issue for the latter & his original 1949 dated medal entitlement slip listing these & his AFC. Flight Lieutenant Eric Thomas Wallis Holt, born 1913, Alpha, Qld. Enl RAAF 17/8/41. Sgt Pilot 1942. W/OFF & Ops with 36 Sqn 1943/44. F/Off 1/11/44. To 1st Communication Unit 13/6/45. Morotai, Borneo, Lae etc from June 1945 to Mar 1946. Disch 6/6/46. AFC - awarded per London Gazette 12/6/47, p.2604 for Operations in 1945: 'HOLT, Eric Thomas Wallace, Flight Lieutenant (413384), 1 Communication Unit RAAF. Flight Lieutenant Holt has been Captain of a Dakota aircraft engaged in the transportation of very important persons & has completed 300 flying hours flying on these duties since June 1945. His aircraft has carried many Cabinet Ministers & high ranking army officers on important missions. Flight Lieutenant Hold has invariably displayed the utmost energy & efficiency on such flights & his manner & example have been an inspiration to his crew. During the Christmas period in 1945, he flew the Prime Minister of Australia on a tour of the Northern islands & during this time, showed a sense of responsibility which averted a possible serious accident. Flight Lieutenant Holt has completed a very large total of flying hours with the Royal Australian Air Force, 1700 of which have been in operational areas in difficult & hazardous circumstances. (LG 12/6/1947 p 2604). Also entitled 1939-45 War & Australia Service Medals. EF. Extremely scarce especially so with the Prime Minister & VIP Pilot connection. Only 146 AFC's awarded to RAAF 1939-50 Reserve $4,000. (Lot 5056)
This auction also showcases the unique collection of KING EDWARD VIII comprising more than 1900 items offered in some 330 lots, the Dennis Hughes collection, for sale here, is probably the most comprehensive offered at auction since the famous Giordano collection sold by Spinks in 2009. The collection covers a period of more than 120 years, from the 1895 four generations medal, through Edward’s investiture in 1911, Royal Visits in the 1920s and 1930s, his much anticipated 1937 Coronation and subsequent Abdication and exile, followed by an extensive range of the very popular retrospective fantasy coins and medals produced up until 2016.
