Postal Fraud with a 20l. where the upper left quarter is added inverted to pretend a complete stamp. This is the earliest known example of such a fraud. The cover is from Triest to Kalamai, there paid on Dec. 31 1862 with the normal rate of 75 lepta composed of 3 different issues: 5l. Paris, 40l. Provisional and 10 and 20l. Definitive. Karpenision error: 1861 Provisional printing of 20l without control figures (pos.10), deep ultramarine with solid background and with 9mm experimental figures printed inverted and reversed at the back (Kound. 12.1), tied by "44" Karpenision cds. Stamp touched at two sides and creased. Only three stamps are known, one believed to be lost during WWII. A very important rarity for Greek philately. Certificate Tseriotis (2003). (Hellas 8III).
