Great range of World coins and banknotes, including Gold, silver and copper coins, medals and World Banknotes . In the World Coins is a German New Guinea 1895A 20 Mark Bird of Paradise. Prooflike fields. KM-9. Very rare only 1500 minted. Slabbed NGC MS62, only 6 graded higher. A similar coin graded NGC MS63 Lot 699 sold for €34,000 = A$52,800 + commission at Teutoburger Munzauktion at their May 2020 auction. (lot 12853) Reserve $ 35,000. Also in the World Gold is a 1902 Boer War Transvaal, gold 'Veld Pond'. Emergency issue 'ZAR 1902' rev 'EEN POND'. Authorized by acting President Schalk Burger, with dies made by PJ Kloppers, struck at Pilgrim's Rest using equipement from a mining engineering/maintenance workshop (thus its 'Veld' or 'Field' Pond nickname). Slabbed NGC 'AU details, removed from jewelry", which has resulted in surfaces that are a bit bright but still with full details. Quite sharply struck for issue. Fr 4. KM 11. Only 986 minted with a very low survival rate. Attractive high grade example of this famous rarity. (Lot 12943) Reserved at $12,000.

Robert Peet enlisted 21 Oct 1942, disch 24 Jan 1946. DSM was awarded for action aboard the cruiser Australia (11) in Jan 1945 in Lingayen Gulf which was hit by a Japanese kamikaze aircraft. Despite half of his crew being killed or disabled by the hit, he joined a scratch crew & continued to direct the weapon at a second kamikaze before it too crashed into the mounting, leaving him badly wounded. MACFARLANE, AIF.', (also entitled to Victory medal). Edward Albert Charles MacFarlane, born Melbourne 1889, enl AIF as Lieutenant, Sydney 16/6/15, to Egypt from 9/12/1915 inc Suez Canal Defences, to France 16/6/16 & OP's from 8/7/16 inc Bois Grenier, Fromelles, Fleurbaix & Armentieres, Captain 29/4/1917, Bombing Officer, 8th Bde, 29/7/1917, to Duty as Camp Commandant HQ, ANZAC Corps 21/12/1918, RtA & Reserve of Officers 1/1/1920. No further service. Awarded Military Cross on the basis of the following recommendation raised 21st September 1916 by Commander 8th Brigade; 'On the night of 16th September 1916, Lieutenant MacFarlane commanded a party from the 30th Bn, 8th Infantry Brigade, in a raid the enemy trenches. He display commendable gallantry, coolness and judgment, personally captured two of the enemy, and succeeded, not withstanding heavy retaliatory fire, in bringing his party back with but one casualty. Also in the world banknote section is a Boer War - Siege of Mafeking. 1 Shillings January 1900, 'Issued by the Authority of Colonel R.S.S. Baden-Powell', with embossed 'Bechuanaland Protectorate / One Penny' embossed duty stamp, with numbered counterfoil at left, showing it came from a special booklet (most of these notes were issued in stapled pads without any counterfoil). Choice UNC in absolutely pristine fresh original condition. P-S651a cat US$1500+ plus large premium for the intact counterfoil. This originates from a partial booklet ex John Ineson collection, and previously no examples with intact counterfoils were recorded. In any case any Mafeking notes extremely rare in such high grade. AFC - awarded per London Gazette 12/6/47, p.2604 for Operations in 1945: 'HOLT, Eric Thomas Wallace, Flight Lieutenant (413384), 1 Communication Unit RAAF. Flight Lieutenant Holt has been Captain of a Dakota aircraft engaged in the transportation of very important persons & has completed 300 flying hours flying on these duties since June 1945. His aircraft has carried many Cabinet Ministers & high ranking army officers on important missions. Flight Lieutenant Hold has invariably displayed the utmost energy & efficiency on such flights & his manner & example have been an inspiration to his crew. During the Christmas period in 1945, he flew the Prime Minister of Australia on a tour of the Northern islands & during this time, showed a sense of responsibility which averted a possible serious accident. Flight Lieutenant Holt has completed a very large total of flying hours with the Royal Australian Air Force, 1700 of which have been in operational areas in difficult & hazardous circumstances.
