1870, "LE VILLE DE PARIS", printed "Depeche Ballon" 9 Dec with comprehensive message (also on additional sheet), oblit. by etoile "15" and c.d.s. "PARIS R.BONAPARTE 11 DEC 70" alongside, addressed to Vichy, without arrival mark. The balloon "Le Ville de Paris" drifted deep into Germany and crashed down near Wetzlar. The crew was taken prisoner, prior to the landing they destroyed the mail or dropped it, the remaining pieces were processed in a paper mill. Rare and attractive item, very fresh and pristine quality!
