1834 (21 Aug) missionary letter from Hoffenthal (today Hopedale), Labrador, privately carried to
Germany, and placed lnto the mails at HERRNHUTH, Saxony, then forwarded via the Prussian Post
to St. Petersburg, Russia, redirected to Sarepta, with a myriad of debit markings and charged 363
rubles on arrival. A remarkable and fascinating letter (Zacharias Glitsch writes in German to his
brother in Sarepta, Russia. He talks about fur trade, his dealings with the Eskimos, etc.), early
usage from the Moravian mission and trading post in Labrador.
