1857. Stampless envelope addressed to Geffe, Sweden written from New York dated 23rd Feb’ headed ‘per Str. Europa’, carried privatly to London on the Royal Mail Steamer “Asia” from New York to Liverpool arriving 16th March with London/Paid ‘Mr 19’, oval ‘P’ and rated ‘½’ in red ink routed via the Royal Danish and Royal Swedish Offices in Hamburg with transits ‘21st MarsÄ and hand-stamped ‘Franco’, m/s ‘10’ in red ink British credit to Hamburg and rated ‘5’ in red crayon the Hamburg credit of 5 silbergroschen to Denmark and Sweden with Helsingborg exchange office ‘23rd Mars’ on face and charged ‘1’ for local delivery. Interesting cover intended for the steamer Europa sailing from Boston on 25th March arriving Liverpool 8th March but carried privatly on the ‘S.S. Asia’ to Liverpool saving 7d postage.
